Chanel Cruise 2022

The Chanel Cruise 2021/22 collection was first revealed virtually (due to the pandemic) in May 2021, in the South of France at the village of Les Baux-de-Provence. It was re-presented to an eager, live audience in Dubai on November 2, 2021, marking the second time Chanel has presented a cruise show in the Arabian fashion mecca.

Inspired by the label’s founder, Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel, and her life-long friendship with filmmaker Jean Cocteau; Virginie Viard’s two-toned blending of prudence and punk plunged down the runway in magnifique splendor.

Models wore flowing, graphic outfits contrasted by black and white hues, white mid-calf booties, and adorned lip cuffs emblazoned with Chanel’s double C logo all while carrying black quilted purses in fringed leather, and tweed. The collection was further distinguished by Chanel's iconic tweed suit reimagined with a sleeveless jacket, punk-inspired t-shirt, black fishnet stockings, and to complete the look, metallic pointed-toe Mary Janes.

The eclectic audience was composed of people of French, Korean, Lebanese, and South Asian descent, as well as several Arabic-language movie stars and Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. The after-party event was marked by a surprise performance by John Legend.

Simultaneously paying homage to the quintessential and beloved style of the brand while shifting the paradigm from the status quo to the alternative, Viard captivates both the devoted and the nouvelle.

The Chanel Cruise 2021/22 comes on the cusp of The International Fashion Week in Dubai which commences at The Meydan Hotel on Friday, November 12, 2021.
