Courrèges

The French house Courrèges, with a rich history originally founded by André Courrèges in 1961, presented its Spring/Summer 2020 collection on the Canal Saint Martin on Wednesday. Its current creative director, Yolanda Zobel, kept the foremost ethos of the brand alive with knitted cutout sweaters, gingham trousers and outerwear in hues of white, black, orange and neons respectively.

With the exception of the symbolic head nod to the iconic founder, with the traditional flat-heeled ankle booties, Zobel opted for even more futuristic, exploratory designs in lieu of time capsuled reminiscence.

Additionally, it wasn’t only the forms of the garments and looks themselves making them appear alien in nature- the material of many of the garments was made from an Amazonian Pirarucu fish, in an effort to be more sustainable and cut down the use of petrol-based plastics.

Liberating and socially conscientious, the Courrèges label- with its algae-based vinyl and subtle codes, seemed appropriately precognitive for our times.
