Blurring the Lines: Street Style Fashion
The Evolution of Streetwear
Streetwear gets its roots from, well, the street–literally. It was a style of casual or “street” clothing first associated with hip hop, surf, sportswear, skate, and punk culture that originally became a global sensation in the early 90s.
Limited-edition drops of merch drove the market, as well as what rap and sports icons were wearing at the time. Streetwear was not considered mainstream, and haute couture once turned their noses up at the ready-to-wear street style.
Streetwear Is Dead
In 2019, the late Virgil Abaloh predicted the death of streetwear in an interview with Dazed magazine. Rather than dying completely though, streetwear, as it was once known has become much more mainstream and blended with fashion to become something new and different.
Street Style Fashion
Street style fashion has emerged from what once was streetwear. It takes elements of streetwear and blends them with RTW everyday fashion. Driven by youth subcultures and different depending on where you are on a map, street style fashion is gaining popularity by the millisecond.
Street Style is quickly becoming just as popular as the actual runway shows themselves. If you need everyday fashion inspiration, Street Style Fashion has you covered.
No matter where you call home, one thing is for certain, while Streetwear may be dead, Street Style Fashion is here to stay.
