
Weekend Update: Pete Davidson Returning To SNL As Host
Pete Davidson, the comedian and actor who rose to fame as a cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL), is set to return to the show as a first time host on May 6, 2023. Davidson, who joined SNL in 2014 at the age of 20, making him one of the youngest cast members ever, announced his departure from the show in December 2022, after nine seasons. He said he wanted to focus on his movie career and his mental health.
Davidson has starred in several films since his SNL debut, such as The King of Staten Island, The Suicide Squad, and The Things They Carried. He has also been open about his struggles with bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and substance abuse. He has used his comedy as a way to cope with his personal issues and to raise awareness about mental health.
SNL fans are looking forward to seeing Davidson back on the sketch comedy show, where he is known for his impressions of celebrities such as Adam Sandler, Rami Malek, and Eminem. He is also famous for his recurring segments such as "Weekend Update", where he delivers sarcastic commentary on current events, and "Chad", where he plays a clueless and monosyllabic teenager. SNL airs on NBC every Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET.
In addition to his return to SNL, Davidson's semi-autobiographical comedy series Bupkis is set to debut on Peacock on May 4. The show offers a glimpse into his life and experiences which "straddles reality and absurdity to best represent what it is to be Pete Davidson" as "he attempts to work through unique family dynamics and the complexities of fame to form meaningful relationships," according to TV line. Davidson co-wrote and executive produces the show, in addition to starring alongside Edie Falco and Joe Pesci.
